Honda recalls Africa Twin in India for incorrect ECU programming

Honda has publicised a voluntary recall for the Africa Twin ADV tourer in India and also in the global market due to an ECU programming malfunction. Units that have been manufactured from February 2022 to October 2022 have been part of this summoning. However, the precise number of affected bikes has not been disclosed by Honda.

Africa Twin ECU Malfunction:

The ECU programming of the Africa twin ADV is facing some malfunction, causing it to affect the throttle action. Due to this malfunction, while acceleration, the bike can activate the wheelie control automatically, resulting in the disbalance of the bike.

Solution for the malfunction:

Honda is trying to fix this issue by reprogramming the ECU system with the appropriate update. All the Africa Twin owners facing the issue can get this checked and corrected at any Honda Bigwing topline outlet at no cost, regardless of the warranty status. All one has to do is check if their Africa Twin is part of this programme by the unique VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the official Bigwing website.

Past recent recalls by Honda India:

So Honda India lately has conducted many recall campaigns of various motorcycle models. Honda India has recalled the CB300f, CB300R, CB350, H’ness CB350, and CB350RS, manufactured between October 2020 and April 2024, with the issue of a wheel speed sensor. Among which CB350 and H’ness CB350 were already recalled earlier in September due to wheel speed sensor and camshaft issues.

In 2022, big bikes like the GL1800 Gold Wing, CRF1100 Africa Twin, and CBR 1000RR-R fireblade were also recalled. These all models faced issues in the fuel injection unit, causing it to stop while riding. Among these GL 1800 Gold Wing models manufactured between March 2018 and May 2021, one was recently recalled for having some issue with the drive gear fastening bolt in certain engines.
