Honda recalls 77,954 cars in India for faulty fuel pump

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has issued a nationwide recall for select Honda models in the Indian market. The brand will recall a total of 77,954 units across the range. This includes 36,086 units of the Amaze produced between Jan – Aug 2019, the largest among the recall population. Also, 20,248 units on the 4th generation Honda City, built between Jan – Sept 2019. The Reason for the Recall

According to Honda, the abovementioned model may have faulty fuel pumps. The fuel pump impeller in these vehicles may contain a defect due to which the sender may stop working and due to the loss of fuel supply the engine may not start or stall during operation. This may cause a risk of an accident. However, it is important to note that no reports of a crash or injury pertaining to this recall.

The Remedy

Honda will voluntarily replace the fuel pump on all the vehicles under the recall campaign. The fuel pump replacement will be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India. The brand will individually contact its customers under the recall in a phased manner starting from 17th April 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, dealer facilities are currently functioning with a limited staff to implement safety distancing norms specified by the government authorities. Therefore, customers are advised to visit the dealer with prior appointment only.

How can I check whether my car is under the recall campaign?

Customers can submit their 17-character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite created on Honda’s official website in India. This will enable customers to know if their Honda vehicle is under the recall campaign.
