Honda plans to launch Hybrid Electric car in India by Q1 of CY2021

Honda Cars India is planning to introduce an electric hybrid car for the Indian market. According to sources, the Japanese brand is making plans to launch the car in the first quarter of the Calendar Year 2021 as demands in the car industry are expected to rise again post the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report also mentions that the brand will not be holding back any investments due to the pandemic and the plans are on track, which means that the electrification plans for 2021 are not likely to be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown associated with it as the brand is being reported to have invested almost 3 to 4 year in the electrification process.

As of now, Honda has not revealed any details on the hybrid model that it plans to introduce in the Indian market but the brand is likely to introduce a hybrid-electric powertrain option on the all-new Honda City that has been recently launched. The brand is also being speculated to offer the electrified technology on the next-generation Honda Jazz, its premium hatchback.

The brand is also expecting a rise in sales and particularly in the Honda Amaze as customers would want to use personal transport instead of public transport for their own safety. This is expected to lead to a rise in demand in the entry-level compact sedan segment as well as used car sales.

The brand is also evaluating the Honda HR-V for the Indian market. The Honda HR-V, if launched, will be positioned between the Honda WR-V and the Honda CR-V and could be launched with a hybrid powertrain option.

A few weeks ago, Honda launched the 5th generation city in the Indian market at prices starting INR 10.90 lakh ex-showroom. Available in both petrol and diesel powertrain options with manual and automatic gearboxes. It is also being rumoured that the brand will launch the turbo-petrol model of the Honda City in India in the near future.
