Honda for the longest of times has been focusing on the mass market scooter segment. It is out in the open that Honda cares most about their Activa, and the sales this popular scooter churns out. And because of this, the premium motorcycle segment has never really taken off. We’re not talking about big superbikes, but even the 150-300cc segment has seen no big action from Honda in the recent past.
However, the brand has now revealed that they might consider to launch performance spec models for the Indian market from April 2020. This is when the BSVI emission norms would kick in, and the current market study which they have conducted is showing a positive scope for new models in that phase.
Honda meanwhile has been trying to push the old and dated CBR250R in India. New decals, a BSIV engine, and a new LED headlamp is all that it has gained in all these years. And as per competition, the CBR250R is now really not exciting anymore.
Honda is also planning to target the Royal Enfield segment. While their product is not yet finalised, the brand wants to introduce a new cruiser motorcycle in this space. Honda already has the Rebel 300 & Rebel 500 motorcycles in international markets, but these bikes in the current form would be more expensive, and hence, not really attract lot of buyers.
Are you waiting for a performance oriented, or rather exciting motorcycle from Honda?
