Reports on the internet suggest that Honda has started working on a new scooter for the Indian market.
Codenamed as the N2Y, this scooter will be powered by a new 110cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox.
While more details are not available at this stage, expect this new scooter to be priced competitively. This could be Honda’s answer to the upcoming scooters from the Hero MotoCorp stable in the coming months.
Expect best-in-class fuel efficiency numbers from the N2Y when it is launched.
The scooter segment is the bread-and-butter module for Honda in India with Activa dominating the segment for a very long time. With footfall in the showrooms in big numbers, a wide range of scooters will ensure that a potential customer stays inside the showroom without having to look at other brands.
Market launch of the N2Y could happen either in late 2015, or early 2016.
