Honda Jazz scores GNCAP 4-Star Safety Rating

Honda Jazz has scored 4 stars out of a maximum 5 in the recent Global NCAP crash test. The base variant of the hatchback was used for this test. But, as mandated by the Indian Government to provide two airbags, ABS and front seatbelt warning as standard, the basic trim got all these safety kits. Jazz has been in India since 2015, and this is the third-generation model in terms of the global market. For the Indian market, Jazz competes against the likes of other premium hatchback offerings like Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Glanza.

Crash Test Result In Details

4 stars in the Global NCAP crash test is quite an achievement. And this is coming from a vehicle that is quite old as well. For adult occupancy, Jazz scored 4 stars with total points of 13.89 out of 17. As per the crash report released by NCAP, the bodyshell of the hatchback is capable of withstanding even greater load impacts. The head and neck protection for the front-seat passengers was also adequate. But, the knee protection for the front passengers was flagged as ‘marginal’ as the report mentioned ‘dangerous structures behind the dashboard’. In terms of child protection, Honda Jazz scored three points. This is because of the absence of ISOFIX mounting points. For this, the hatchback scored 31.54 out of 49.

Honda Jazz – A Brief Overview

Given the growing competition in the premium hatchback segment, Jazz sales figure has been below par. One of the key reasons for this is the lack of regular updates. From the outside, the hatchback looks pretty much the same as when it was first launched. Furthermore, customers only get a single engine to choose from, which is the 1.2-litre petrol engine. This when compared to the competition, which offers multiple engines and gearbox options, customers are more attracted to the other options. But, now, with the official NCAP safety rating, Honda has something to boast about and attract more customers. Furthermore, one key area where Jazz completely outshines its rivals is the space.
