Honda dispatches two-wheeler consignment using Hazira-Ghogha inland waterway in Gujarat

Honda 2Wheelers India has become the first automobile company in the Indian market to adopt the Ro-Pax ferry service that has been newly inaugurated and connects Hazira (Surat) and Ghogha (Bhavnagar) in the Gulf of Khambhat in the state of Gujarat. The Hazira – Ghogha Ro-Pax ferry service is in collaboration with Indigo Seaways Pvt. Ltd. and the service route was inaugurated on 8th of November 2020. 

After the route was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Honda dispatched its first two-wheeler consignment from its Narsapura plant in Karnataka to Veraval, near Somnath in the Saurashtra region, using the Hazira-Ghogha Ro-Pax ferry service. The new logistics route has reduced the delivery time and distance for Honda’s new two-wheelers by a significant amount. Earlier, the full road travel from the south factory to the Saurashtra region took 7 days in transit and now via the new route it takes 2 days less. The overland distance has also been cut down by 465 km. 

The new Hazira-Ghogha Ro-Pax ferry service is also environmentally friendly apart from being faster and cost-efficient. The new route has reduced Honda’s carbon emissions by approximately 311 kg/trip. Earlier, the brand also adopted the Dahej – Ghoga inland ferry service and between 2018 and 2020, the brand dispatched nearly 19,200 units using the  Dahej – Ghogha ferry route which saves 1-day of time per shipment and also saves close to 4% of freight cost and a significant amount of carbon emission which are 101,304 kg, between 2018 and 2020. The Hazira-Ghoga route will also save close to 8653 tons of carbon emissions per annum.

In other news, Honda registered sales of 433,206 units in the month of November 2020. The brand has sold 412,641 units in the domestic market which is an overall growth of 9% and 11% growth in the domestic market. Honda also exported 20,565 units to the international market. In the recent past, Honda also announced that the Modern-Classic Honda H’Ness CB350 registered sales of 1,000 units in just 20 days.
