Honda conducts Road Safety Awareness Campaign in West Bengal

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

With the opening up of schools and colleges in India, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is now targeting its National Road Safety Awareness Campaign to these educational institutes. This campaign is to emphasise the need for road safety among citizens. Moreover, it will also educate them about the know-how of road safety.

Recently, HMSI conducted a two-day camp (30-31 August 2022) at Hindi Balika Vidyapith in Siliguri. This event witnessed spirited participation from over 2,000 school students as well as staff members who set out to imbibe safe road habits. HMSI’s road safety instructors made use of age-appropriate road safety learning programs to enhance the retention of road safety awareness.

Road safety education is crucial for a road safety mindset for the citizens in a developing country like India. Thus, HMSI has taken up the responsibility of building a safer India on roads. With this target in mind, Honda has resumed its on-ground road safety training – National Road Safety Awareness Campaign. The main aim is to educate children as safety ambassadors of tomorrow. Furthermore, it also aims to help adults become responsible road users.

HMSI’s National Road Safety Awareness Program: Key Highlights

HMSI’s specially trained road safety instructors educated 5 to 10 years old on the basic do’s and don’ts. This included topics like commuting on a school bus and cycling. Meanwhile, the 11 to 12 years old learned how to ride their bicycle safely and their duties as pillions on a two-wheeler. The safety instructors also covered the importance of safety gear on roads. The kids also got a hands-on real-time learning experience with the specially imported CRF50 motorcycles to make this learning more practical and exciting.

Safety riding theory sessions included topics like road rules and regulations, road signs and markings, driver’s duties on the road, riding gear and posture explanation and safe riding etiquette. Existing riders like the school staff members were tested and honed their learnings through practical training on a two-wheeler. To ensure maximum participation, Honda also conducted fun educational activities. These include road safety games and quizzes on a daily basis.
