With the opening of schools in the post-Covid world, Honda is now more active in schools and colleges. Its National Road Safety Awareness Campaign has been one of the best platforms to re-emphasize the need for road safety.
This three-day camp was held at the Modern Public School in Bhiwadi, with start and end dates of 20th to 22nd July 2022. Honda witnessed spirited participation from over 2600 school students and staff members. All of whom were set out to imbibe safe riding practices. HMSI’s safety instructors made use of the age-appropriate road safety learning programs to enhance the retention of road safety awareness.
Road safety education plays one of the key roles in developing a road safety mindset. The main aim of this campaign is to educate children as safety ambassadors of tomorrow. This also allows them to help adults understand the importance of using the roads safely.
HMSI’s specially trained road safety instructors educated 5 – 10 years old via Interactive sessions. They covered the aspects of the do’s and don’ts while commuting on a school bus and cycling. For the 11 to 12 years old, they learnt about how to safely ride their bicycle, their duties as a pillion on a 2-wheeler and also the importance of safety gear on roads.
To make this learning more engaging and fun, kids got hands-on learning experience on the specially imported CRF50 motorcycles. The key topics of this awareness program included safety riding via theory sessions. This was to spread knowledge on road rules and regulations, road markings and signs, driver’s duties on the road, riding gear, correct posture explanation, and safe riding etiquette.
The 13 to 17 years old as well as the staff would have benefited greatly from this. For the existing drives, Honda further honed their riding skills. Staff members of the school who are already existing riders went through theoretical as well as practical training on a two-wheeler. The young students also learn more about road safety through HMSI’s fun educational activities like quizzes and road safety games on a daily basis.
