Honda Civic Type R TCR teased

Honda’s performance and race division has teased the Civic Type R TCR race car. Honda Performance Development (HPD) is co-developing the car along with JAS Motorsports.

What’s new in the Honda Civic Type R TCR?

On the outside, the racecar gets few new parts to help increase the downforce on the track. One of these is the large rear wing. The car also gets other aero bits like revised bumpers, side skirts, performance wheels and track rubber amongst others.

The Civic Type R TCR also gets an upgraded version of the standard 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo charged petrol engine from the road-legal car.

The car also gets upgraded brakes and transmission. The insides also gets a new multi-channel driver display that reveals more information to the driver in real time. A quick-fill system has also been incorporated along with better and additional lighting, driver cooling and anti-lock brakes.

Development of the Honda Civic Type R TCR

The all-new Honda Civic Type R TCR is designed and built by JAS Motorsport at their specialist facility in Italy. Honda has been jointly working with them and has renewed their commitment to customer racing teams across the globe.

According to the JAS Motorsports TCR project leader Mads Fischer, the new Type R TCR gets significant improvements in the areas of chassis, engine, suspension, and braking. JAS has also used the extensive knowledge gained through the NSX GT3 and Civic Type R TCR Customer Racing Programs to create the safest and most driver-friendly cockpit till date.

Debut of the Honda Civic Type R TCR

This new Honda Civic Type R TCR will make its racing debut at the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Partner teams HART, LA Honda World and VGRT will be racing with these Civics. While the driver line-ups have not yet been confirmed, it is said that Ryan Eversley and Matt Pombo will be one of the driver pairs.
