Honda City was India’s best mid-size sedan in 2020

Honda Cars India has revealed that the City, its longest-running model in India, was the best-selling car in the mid-size sedan segment for the calendar year 2020. Starting from January 2020 till December 2020, Honda reported that it had sold around 21,826 units and as of December 2020, Honda City has a market share of around 41% in its segment, which is quite remarkable.

The launch of the 5th generation City in July propelled the sales in the second half of the year which resulted in a growth of 10% in the mid-size sedan segment. Honda reported a cumulative sales of 17,347 units of the Honda City for the period of July to December 2020. As per reports, the total units sold in the mid-size sedan segment was 45,277 units for July to December 2020 period as compared to 41,122 units in the same period last year. Honda also mentioned that its top-spec ZX trim is the top-selling variant which accounts for about 50% of the total sales and the customers were more inclined to buy the CVT than ever before.

The all-new Honda City is powered by two engine options, the 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 121 HP of max power at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 Nm, meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 100  HP of peak torque at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. The gearboxes on offer are – a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. The manual City can do a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 10.2 seconds whereas the CVT automatic takes a good 1.6 seconds more.

Honda has included a long features list to lure in more customers like; full LED headlamps and taillamps, 17.7 cm HD full-colour TFT touchscreen infotainment system, LaneWatch camera, vehicle stability assist along with agile handling assist and more. The new City also gets 32 connected features with a 5-year free subscription. In fact, the Honda City also scored a full 5-star rating in the ASEAN crash test and thus proving its structural rigidity and built quality.
