According to a media report, the new-generation Honda City is going to be launched soon in the Indian market. The popular sedan car has been spotted testing in India earlier with camouflage covers and at the end of CY 2019, the car was launched in Thailand as mentioned in our earlier reports.
Now, new details about the car have emerged and if sources are to be believed, Honda is likely to bring the car with three trim variant and new BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. Some of the features that the car is likely to get are an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with connected features and Alexa integration as standard across all variants, cruise control, traction control, vehicle stability assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, multiple airbags, headrest on all 5 seats and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers.
In the engine department, the Honda City currently sold in the Indian market comes with a BS6 compliant liquid-cooled 4-stroke SOHC i-VTEC Inline 4-cylinder petrol engine that has an engine displacement of 1497cc and produces 119 ps of power and 145 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual transmission or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). New reports suggest that the aforementioned engine will not be carried over to the next-generation car but it will be powered by another 1.5-litre DOHC petrol engine with a different bore and stroke which reportedly has better low-end performance and improved Noise, Vibration and Handling levels.
The new City is also expected to come with a BS6 compliant diesel engine that is likely to be the upgraded version of the current 1.5-litre liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC i-DTEC Inline-4-cylinder engine that produces 100 ps of power and 200 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A CVT automatic variant is also expected to be made available on the next-generation City in the diesel guise.
The new Honda City locks its horns with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris.
