Honda CBR250R production stopped, CBR300R coming up

Reports on the internet suggest that Honda has pulled the plug off the CBR250R quarter-litre sportbike.

It is a known fact that Honda will be replacing the 250cc motorcycle with an updated and restyled 300cc motorcycle in the coming months. A new production like is expected to be set-up by November 2014 to accommodate the CBR300R. Dealers are currently clearing the inventory of the CBR250R, so one shouldn’t be surprised if you get the motorcycle for a good deal even after a couple of months.

With more competition in the segment, the CBR250R looks rather pale. Honda is betting on just a mere facelift like styling update and a bump up in the engine capacity to 286cc to take the fight against competition. Where the CBR250R had styling cues from the VFR, the new CBR300R is more on the lines of the CBR design language with the dual keen eyes at the front. Apart from the dual headlamp setup at the front, the bike also gets a revised fairing which looks much more proportionate. The short exhaust has now been replaced with a longer unit with a chrome wrap. Everything else on the design front is carried over from the CBR250R, for example the rear panels, tail lamp etc.

The CBR300R will be powered by a bigger 286cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, 4-stroke motor producing 30.4 BHP of power and 27 Nm of torque. Engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and fuel will be delivered via EFI. The new bike also weighs 8 kg lesser than the outgoing model and hence, the power to weight ratio will be on the positive side. Without any doubt, expect Honda to offer an optional / standard C-ABS system for a safe commute.

Pricing is expected to increase roughly by Rs. 20,000.
