Honda Amaze gets 2-Star safety rating from Global NCAP

The Honda Amaze, the sub-4-meter sedan offering from Honda, has recently undergone crash testing by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP), with results revealing a 2-star safety rating for adult safety and a concerning 0-star rating for child safety.

Previous Performance

The Made-in-India Amaze was tested under the previous Global NCAP protocols achieving four stars for adult and one star for child occupant protection back in 2019. However, the sedan was reassessed under the newer, more stringent protocols this time around.

Honda Amaze Adult Safety Rating

In terms of adult safety, the Amaze scored 27.85 points out of 34.00, earning it a 2-star safety rating. The assessment highlighted several strengths, including good protection for the head and neck of both driver and passenger during frontal impacts. However, there were areas of concern, such as marginal protection for the chest and knees. Notably, the absence of side head protection and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) contributed to this rating.

Honda Amaze Child Safety Rating

Regrettably, in terms of child safety protection, the Honda Amaze faced significant shortcomings, scoring only 8.58 out of 49.00 points and thus receiving a 0-star safety rating. Despite the utilization of ISOFIX anchorages and top tethers for the forward-facing child seat for the 3-year-old, concerns were raised as the head made contact with the vehicle’s interior during the frontal impact. Furthermore, the rearward-facing child seat for the 18-month-old, installed using adult seatbelts, failed to prevent ejection risks, resulting in zero dynamic points in front and side tests.

Honda had recently updated its entire lineup in India with some additional safety features, a move that saw the Amaze gain seat belt reminders for all five seats. Had the newer model been tested, the safety rating could have been slightly different. The current-gen version is set to be replaced by an all-new model in the coming months.
