Honda ADV160 scooter – what to expect?

As reported online, HMSI is planning to debut a new adventure scooter that will be positioned in the 160cc category. It is codenamed K4LA and it is most likely to be the ADV160, which is already on sale in select global markets like Indonesia and Thailand.

If so, then it will become the first scooter in its class in India to offer a liquid-cooled engine. Because, the global ADV160 is powered by a 157cc liquid-cooled engine, generating 16 bhp and 14.7 Nm of peak power and torque. Additionally, it will feature an undertone frame, meaning that there will be no flat footboard like its rivals Yamaha Aerox 155 and the Hero Xoom 160.

Speaking of the hardware and specs, it weighs 133 kg and has a 780mm seat height. The front tyre is a 14-inch alloy wheel while the rear is a 13-inch alloy wheel. The suspension duties are done by Showa 31mm telescopic forks at the front and shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, it uses a 240mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear.

As of now, HMSI has not officially confirmed any timeline for the introduction of the ADV160 in India. But, we can safely assume that it will take place within 2025-26. The current lineup of Honda two-wheelers in India is modest and it is solely dependent on the Activa scooter range and the Shine commuter motorcycle.

Our verdict

Honda’s stepping into the maxi scooter segment in India will boost the segment. The maxi scooter category has been highly underrated till now. But, the new-gen city commuters have started to like the powerful yet convenient maxi scooters in India.
