Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has announced that the brand has registered cumulative sales of over 11 lakh BS6 units sold in the domestic market since the brand started selling BS6 Honda 2Wheelers in India.
Honda 2Wheelers claims to be one of the first manufacturers in the Indian market that started selling BS6 emission compliant scooter and motorcycles. The brand had started the transition into conforming with the stringent new standards 6 months before the deadline, with the launch of the BS6 Honda Activa 125 in September 2019.
Honda offers 11 BS6 models across its Scooter and Motorcycle range along with premium segment bikes such as the BS6 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin which is the brand’s first BS6 compliant motorcycle in their Big Wing portfolio. But the brand’s BS6 sales driver’s are the BS6 Honda Activa 6G and the BS6 Honda Shine 125.
The Honda 2Wheeler portfolio comes packed with new and advanced technologies in their powertrain such as Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) technology that integrates an ACG Starter Motor which starts the engine using the same AC generator used to generate current and charge the battery while riding, eliminating the need of a conventional starter.
Programmed Fuel-Injection (PGM-FI) with 6 intelligent sensors – Engine oil temperature sensor, Engine Speed sensor, Oxygen sensor, Air pressure sensor, Air temperature sensor, Throttle Position Sensor which relay the data through a control unit that injects the right amount of fuel through a constant feedback system.
The new engines also come with new mechanical features such as a decompression valve that keeps the exhaust valve slightly open at the beginning of the compression stroke which enables the engine to start with less effort and the Swing Back motion that rotates the crank slightly in the opposite direction which allows the piston to take a ‘running start’, making it easier to start the engine. Along with this the Activa 6G also features 26 patented technologies including the world-First enhanced Smart Tumble Technology (eSTT).
It is also important to note that HMSI ended the Fiscal (2019-2020) with the industry’s highest BS6 sales of 6.5 lakh units and the brand has also dispatched 210,879 units in June’20 (202,837 domestic and 8,042 exports) as compared to 54,820 units in May’20 (54,000 domestic and 820 exports) which is nearly four times when compared to the same period in the previous month. The brand has also retailed nearly 3 Lakh vehicles in June’20 from 1.15 Lakh units in May which is a spike of 156%.
