Hero MotoCorp testing new premium scooter for India

Apart from new bike launches, Hero MotoCorp is looking to expand its scooter portfolio as well. A new maxi scooter has been spotted near Hero’s Research and Development Center at Jaipur. From the images, it appears that this maxi-scooter is already ready and could be launched in the festive season.

Hero’s new maxi-scooter : More Details

Looks like Hero is looking to apply the same strategy it’s using on its motorcycles to its range of scooters. This means Hero is looking to get into the premium scooter market. What better way to foray into the premium segment than by launching a maxi-scooter?

In terms of looks the scooter gets a split headlamp, sloping front end, attractive rear view mirrors and aggressive turn indicators. We can expect an all-LED lights setup on the maxi scooter. There is a single-sided stubby exhaust as well. The panels on the sides have sharp designs on them which promote the sportiness of the scooter.

The seat gets a stepped design with a sporty stance. Further, the contoured seat is designed so as to hold the rider and the pillion firmly which could aid in the handling. The seat design is large as well which could make it a comfortable place on long rides.

In the leaked patent image, there was a rear top box which is not there on the test mule. Hence this could be offered as an accessory.

The maxi-scooter could get a fully-digital instrument cluster. Some of the features on it could include telematics, and other connected vehicle technologies like ignition alter, theft alert, overspeed alter and more. The maxi-scooter could also get remote engine cut-off.

Powertrain of the Hero maxi-scooter

Currently, there is only the Yamaha Aerox in the maxi-scooter segment in India. It comes with a 155cc engine. Hence, Hero could use the 163cc unit from the Xtreme 160R. This motor develops 15 BHP and 14 Nm.
