Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, announces its sales report for May 2021. The company revealed that it sold a total of 1,83,044 units of two-wheelers for the given month. Hero MotoCorp mentioned the closure of the manufacturing plants as one of the critical reasons for the declining sales.
For May 2021, Hero MotoCorp sold a total of 1,78,706 motorcycles. Compared to 1,06,038 motorcycles sold for the same period last year. The scooter segment registered a total sales of 4,338 units in May 2021 against 6,644 units for the corresponding month last year. Hero MotoCorp sold 1,59,561 vehicles in the domestic market, compared to 1,08,848 units for the same period last year. In terms of international business, the export figure for May 2021 stood at 23,483 units. Meanwhile, the figure stood at 3,834 units for May 2020.
In the wake of the growing Covid-19 cases in the country, Hero MotoCorp decided to close all its manufacturing facilities temporarily. All the three plants located in Gurugram, Haridwar, and Dharuhera have now resumed single shift operations on May 17. The other three manufacturing facilities in Neemrana, Halol, and Chittoor have also been working in single-shift operations since May 24.
To help fight the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the country, Hero MotoCorp had announced a host of measures. Under the ‘Hero We Care’ initiative, the company partnered with the District Administration of Gurugram and set up a 100-bed Covid Care Centre in the City. In the interest of its customers, Hero MotoCorp had also announced the extension of all its warranty and complimentary services. So, the customers who missed the last date can avail of these services once the situation gets normal. Hero MotoCorp is also encouraging its employees to take up vaccination which is one of the most important criteria to help flatten the curve.
Hero MotoCorp joined its hand with Gogoro, a Taiwanese e-mobility company, to leverage the growing demand in the electric vehicle segment. Hero MotoCorp plans to launch the Gogoro Viva electric scooter under this collaboration. Along with this, Hero MotoCorp is also planning to build a battery swapping infrastructure in India. Hero Motosports finished the recent Andalucia Rally with two riders in the top 5 positions in the Motorsports segment.
