Hero MotoCorp recently launched its BS6 range of motorcycles and scooters along with a new 160cc segment motorcycle called the Xtreme 160R at the Hero World 2020 event. By transitioning to the BS6 emission compliant engines the brand has shown its commitment towards the Govt. of India’s goal towards a cleaner and greener environment.
Now, unconfirmed reports have suggested that Hero MotoCorp may be planning go even greener by introducing to the Indian market a new electric-powered scooter based on the Hero Maestro Edge. The eMaestro as it could be christened, if the rumours are to be believed, is likely to feature a fully digital instruments console with cloud connectivity and a powerful permanent magnet electric motor coupled to a Lithium-Ion battery with AC wall charging as well as fast charging.
Design-wise the eMaestro is likely to carry the same overall design as the petrol-powered Hero Maestro but is expected to get its own distinguishing features. The eMaestro is also expected to come with front disc brakes, telescopic front suspension, red alloy wheels etc. Some features such as the illuminated under-seat luggage compartment, side stand warning light, LED taillights are expected to be carry forwarded with some more additions.
The internal combustion engine Hero Maestro Edge 125 is powered by a BS6 compliant 125cc Air-cooled, 4-stroke single cylinder OHC engine that produces 9 bhp of power and 10.4 Nm of torque mated to a Variomatic drive (automatic) with dry centrifugal clutch. The fueling is through a Programmed Fuel Injection system with X-Sens technology.
Hero MotoCorp has recently launched this new BS6 variant of the Hero Maestro Edge 125 at the price of INR 67,950 ex-showroom, Delhi. The BS6 Maestro Edge 125 comes in two variants alloy wheel with drum brake and alloy wheel with disc brake and the latter is offered with a special iridescent paint which is priced at INR 70,650 ex-showroom, Delhi.
The eMaestro if launched will compete with the Bajaj Chetak electric and the TVS iQube.
