Harley-Davidson will launch the Street 500 motorcycle in India in 2015. The company has tasted a good amount of success with the bigger engined, Street 750 and is looking at replicating the same story with a cheaper, entry level motorcycle.
The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is priced at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 4.3 lakh, so expect the Street 500 to undercut the Rs. 4 lakh mark.
Powering the Street 500 will be a 492cc, liquid-cooled, Revolution X, V-Twin petrol motor producing 40 Nm of peak torque @ 3,500 RPM.
Styling will remain identical to the bigger Street 750 with an all-black look. The bike will sport a small bikini fairing headlamp, alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, 2×1 exhaust pipe in black, small speedometer with a digital display, big radiator etc.
Although priced higher, the Street 750 is managing sales almost equal to the Royal Enfiel Continental GT. Chances are, with a cheaper price tag, the Street 500 becomes the best selling 500cc motorcycle here in India.
The Street 500 and Street 750 were launch ready at the same time, but Harley-Davidson chose to take one step at a time and introduced the Street 500 in the exports market first.
India is the only country outside of the USA where Harley-Davidson has set up a manufacturing facility.
