Earlier this week, iconic American cruiser manufacturer Harley-Davidson revealed their LiveWire electric motorcycle in India. Not, the bike has not been officially launched, but considering the fact that the brand showcased it in our market, it hints at the future prospects in Harley-Davidson showooms. The LiveWire has already gone on sale in markets abroad, and could be available for orders in India towards the end of 2019. Abroad, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire costs roughly $30,000 and if imported to India as a CBU, expect pricing in our market to be over INR 40 lakh.
Powering the Harley-Davidson LiveWire is a Revelation motor with 15.5 kWh high-voltage rechargeable battery. With a fast charging setup, one can have 80% charge from 0 in 40 minutes and a 100% charge in 1 hour. Once fully charged, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire can deliver a range of 146 miles and in bumper-to-bumper situation, you can expect 95 miles of riding range.
The electric motor on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire produces 116.6 Nm of torque and 105 HP of power. The bike rides on a Showa separate function front fork and a Showa rear monoshock. With 5-spoke cast aluminium wheels, the bike weighs 249.02 kg when ready to ride.
In terms of features, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire has a 4.3″ touchscreen speedometer cluser with a colour display, smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, USD type-C connections, full LED lighting, etc. The riding aids on the Harley-Davidson LiveWire include ABS, traction control, 6-axis IMU, Drag-Torque Slip Control and also the ability to set a geofence on the motorcycle.
Now this is not a typical cruiser, but sits somewhere between a cruiser and a naked street bike in overall design. One can consider the body style to be similar to the category of the Ducati Diavels. The bike has rear set foot pegs, forward biased riding stance, retro front fairing over the headlamp, sculpted fuel tank and a chopped rear design making it stand out from the crowd. Of course, the exposed batter components in the conventional engine section give the bike a pretty solid presence.
Harley-Davidson is offering the LiveWire in black, orange and yellow paint schemes.
