Harley-Davidson bike with a Hero Karizma XMR engine in development?

The Harley-Davidson X440 has been a launch success in India. Already, biking enthusiasts have managed to book the entire initial lot units and are eagerly awaiting for further units. Now, it seems that the Milwaukee-based bikemaker is looking to launch a smaller capacity motorcycle in India. The X210 will be using the same engine as the Hero Karizma XMR.

Harley-Davidson X210 : More Details

Spotted testing for the first time on Indian roads, the heavily camouflaged prototype looks similar to the X440 but has a smaller engine. This could be the 210cc single-cylinder unit from the Karizma. Afterall, Hero MotoCorp is Harley-Davidson’s partner in India.

One of the changes in the engine is that it is air-cooled compared to X440’s oil-cooling. The 210cc is slightly down on power but develops half the torque of the 440cc unit.

Smaller Harley could be a reality

While Harley is known for larger bikes, the company is already selling the X250 in China. With the 200cc-segment being quite popular in India, manufacturer’s like Harley-Davidson are looking at offering a product in this category for sure.

Rivals of the Harley-Davidson X210

This smaller bike could head against the likes of the 250cc Triumph which is currently under development. Harley could price this bike quite competitively with a sub INR 2 lakh price point. The bike could also compete with the Royal Enfield’s 350cc motorcycles.

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson & Hero MotoCorp have jointly developed and launched the X440 cruiser motorcycle in India. This is the most affordable Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be sold worldwide, and it will be available in 3 variants.

While the bike has been launched in India, production is expected to commence only from September 2023. The bike will be made at Hero’s Neemrana plant in Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the customer deliveries are planned in October 2023. Hero is currently working to expand the production capacity at the Neemrana plant.

The Harley-Davidson X440 has 25,597 bookings as per data released by Hero MotoCorp. Interestingly, the bike has received over 25,000 bookings within the first month since its launch. The X440 was launched at an introductory price of INR 2.29 lakh. Now, the price has been hiked by INR 10,500.

Meanwhile, the online bookings for the highly anticipated motorcycle were stopped on 3 August 2023. The move comes after a strong demand for the X440.
