GreenCell will deploy 350 low floor electric buses across Uttar Pradesh

GreenCell Mobility Private Limited has announced its partnership with 2 Special Purpose Vehicle companies incorporated by PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited. GreenCell Mobility promoted by Ever Source Capital is one of the upcoming players in the electric mobility sector in India. It wants to leverage from the current push for electrification by the Indian Government. In a recent announcement, it was revealed that PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited has won the bid for deploying 350 electric buses and charging infrastructure across all the major cities of Uttar Pradesh namely, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Prayagraj and Jhansi.

The contract has been awarded by the Directorate of Urban Transport, Government of Uttar Pradesh and comes under the FAME-II program of Indian Government which looks into facilitating faster adoption and manufacturing of electric vehicles. This contract will start off electric buses for the public thus promoting the use of electric vehicles in the state and send a message about sustainable development.

As per the contract, Lucknow and Kanpur will get 100 buses each, Prayagraj and Varanasi will get 50 buses each followed by Jhansi and Gorakhpur with each getting 25 buses. The use of these electric buses with zero-tail pipe emissions will eliminate CO2 equivalent to approximately 22,000 tones per year and the contract also claims to create 1000 jobs in the state. The buses will be powered by 3.131 Kwh liquid-cooled Li-ion battery which has the capability to travel 120 km on a single charge. The buses are enabled with fast charging which will take around 30-45 mins to charge to the full capacity and thus the range can be improved further.

The buses are designed with a low floor (650mm) thanks to the monocoque chassis which is supported by full air suspension system to provide the best passenger comfort. For the safely of the passengers, the buses will also have CCTV cameras. To add to the convenience of the commuters mobile charging points have also been provided. The buses will also have wheel-chair access with ramp provision.
