Greaves Cotton showcased its range of electric vehicles at the 2023 Auto Expo. These include 6 new electric two and three-wheelers. Apart from these vehicles, the company also announced its foray into electric powertrain manufacturing, including components like motor controllers, integration software and others.
The latest addition to the product portfolio of electric two-wheelers is the Ampere Primus. The vehicle is primarily targeted towards the modern millennial commuter. To this end, the scooters offer higher speed, better styling and new technology.
In terms of performance, the company claims a top speed of 77 kmph with a sub-5 second 0-140 kmph time. A 4 kW mid-mounted motor power the scooter. Ampere claims the scooter can deliver a true range of over 100 km on a single charge from its 3 kWh battery. Users can ride this scooter in four modes – Eco, City, Power and Reverse.
Feature-wise, the Primus will have Bluetooth connectivity with navigation and a phone app. There are four colours on offer – Himalayan White, Royal Orange, Havelock Blue & Buck Black.
Apart from the Ampere Primus, the stall also has the Ampere NXG, a stylish scooter with IoT connectivity and the Ampere NXU, a strong and connected B2B offering for various commercial applications.
At the event, the company also announced a few initiatives for the three-wheeler segment. These include the Greaves ELP, to add an electric passenger three-wheeler; Greaves ELC, an electric cargo three-wheeler; and Greaves Aero Vision, a concept cargo vehicle that will offer both efficiency and performance in the ever-changing cargo mobility segment.
To boost the Indian EV ecosystem, Greaves Cotton has made a commitment to invest INR 1500 crore. This investment is shared across four areas. The first is the Ampere range of electric two-wheelers. The funds will also be used towards Greaves electric three-wheelers, powertrain and allied components as well as towards the growth of Greaves Finance and Retail.
Greaves Retail currently has multi-brand stores that retail 15+ EVs, electric vehicle service and spares, amongst others. Greaves Finance arranges finance for EV vehicles pan-India.
According to the company, Greaves has saved over 35 million litres of fuel, thanks to the total estimated mileage of over 1.3 billion km covered by the users of Greaves’ electric vehicles.
