The much-awaited KTM RC 200 Gen-2 is finally here for the Indian market. This is the first-ever major upgrade of the RC lineup since it was first launched in 2014. RC brand of KTM has been quite successful in the Indian domestic market. It has a fair share of customers who can keep on talking about their motorcycles for days. Such is the demand and reputation of the KTM brand in India. KTM globally introduced the Austrian bike, the new KTM RC 200 Gen-2, in Aug 2021. And given the demand and fan following, KTM chose India as the first market to receive this update. KTM has put on a sticker price of INR 2.09 lakh (ex-showroom) for the KTM RC 200 Gen-2.
Starting with the exterior outlook, there have been quite some changes when compared to the outgoing generation. In fact, the motorcycle now gets an all new-chassis with improved ergonomics, features, performance and more. Keeping the brand’s ‘READY TO RACE’ in mind, this new update retains the Grand Prix inspired styling. With this, KTM aims to bring in the racetrack DNA for the street.
KTM uses a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 4-stroke engine. The engine comes with twin overhead camshafts, four valves, and electronic fuel injection. RC 200’s engine has a power output of 25.5 HP and a torque output of 19.5 Nm. The engine comes with a 6-speed transmission unit. The brand has also equipped a larger airbox enhancing the breathability of the motor, thus improving the responsiveness, efficiency and power delivery. KTM’s use of a curved radiator ensures faster engine cooling, thus helping maintain an optimal temperature.
Riders will definitely appreciate the new adjustable handle and LCD dash instrument cluster on the new RC 200. Furthermore, KTM has increased the fuel tank capacity from 9.5 litres to 13.7 litres. This greatly helps in improving the riding range, thus eliminating the hassle of frequent refilling. The KTM RC 200 also features an LED headlamp setup.
Another significant update is the new stiffer, lighter split-steel trellis frame. This helps in improving rigidity and agility. In the safety department, KTM is now using Supermoto ABS for the RC 200. The braking setup currently consists of a lighter 320mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. To enhance the performance, KTM is using more lightweight high strength wheels and a stiffer hollow front axle.
