Suzuki is going to launch its new 250cc motorcycle on 20th May 2019 and a few bikes which were completely wrapped in plastic cover were seen in images that have surfaced on the internet. The bike is believed to be the new Gixxer SF 250 (Gixxer 250 SF) or GSX-R250, it is up to Suzuki to decide the name which is still not yet unveiled to the public.
The bike, though heavily wrapped, looks like a bulky machine, most definitely a fully-faired motorcycle. The front has a conventional telescopic suspension and alloy wheels and is expected to have a monoshock on the rear. The headlight is expected to be an all-LED unit with LED lights on the tail and an LCD digital instrumentation console. It is expected to come with a semi step-up seat and dual tipped exhaust, since Suzuki loves that. There is also some speculation that a naked version will be launched later in this year, with the same underpinnings. One can also notice machine finished alloy wheels, rear tyre hugger, and possibly MRF tyres on this motorcycle.
The engine specifications are scarce at the moment, but it is believed to have a 250cc, single-cylinder, 4-valve, SOHC unit which is expected to produce 26.5 HP of power to keep up with the other quarter-litre motorcycles. The bike is expected to come with only an oil-cooler and there won’t be liquid-cooling, to keep the price in check. Though there is speculation that a future model with BSVI standard engine will have liquid-cooling. The engine is expected be fuel-injected to keep up with strict new emission norms and provide better fuel efficiency. The brakes are expected to be hydraulic discs on both front and rear wheel and have a dual-channel ABS setup for safety.
In India, the current Suzuki Gixxer is powered by an air-cooled, 154.9cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 2- valve, SOHC engine that produces 14.8 PS of power @ 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque @ 6000 RPM powered by Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The Suzuki Gixxer comes with 41mm diameter telescopic front fork and a 7-step adjustable rear monoshock. The brakes are hydraulic disc brakes on both wheels equipped with single-channel ABS. The kerb weight of the Suzuki Gixxer is 136 kg and the fuel tank capacity is 12-litres.
When launched the quarter-litre Suzuki will compete with the likes of Yamaha FZ-25, Fazer 25 and the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200.
