Full Electric Volvo XC40 Recharge SUV revealed

Volvo has revealed the fully electric compact-SUV in their portfolio, the XC40 Recharge. Recharge is the brand name added to denote that this is the all-electric variant and this is the brands first ever fully electric car to head to showrooms soon. So expect other cars which will be all-electric to be launched under this Recharge car line. In the next 5 years, Volvo will launch a fully electric car every year to reach 50% of their global sales to come from electric cars by 2025. Even plug-in hybrid cars from Volvo will be launched under the Recharge car line.

Based on the compact Volvo XC40, the XC40 Recharge has quite a few changes apart from the biggest difference being the powertrain. The highlight inside the cabin is the all-new infotainment system which is powered by Android from Google. Volvo will be offering free electricity for a year on their Recharge models which will be refunded against the average electricity cost in the ownership year.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge promises to deliver a driving range of 400 km as per the WLTP cycle on a full battery charge. This compact-SUV will deliver a power output of 408 HP from the new electric powertrain. Volvo claims that with the use of a fast charger, one can get 80% battery charge in the XC40 Recharge in just 40 minutes.

The Android touchscreen infotainment will offer Volvo On Call service which is a digital connected platform.

Volvo plans to triple production capacity of electric cars will also offer customisation platform to customers. Volvo also assumes that their plug-in hybrid cars might account for 20% sales by 2020. Volvo wants to become a climate-neutral car brand by 2040, by offering only electric cars on sale.
