Ecclestone has told PTI that the Indian Grand Prix could return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2016.
The Indian Grand Prix was dropped from the Formula 1 calendar due to tax and bureaucratic hurdles. But now, the race promoters have had a successful meeting with Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone at the Russian Grand Prix this year and are looking at bringing back the racing event to India in 2016.
2015 will see a total of 20 races with Mexico making its way back to the Formula 1 calendar. If the Indian Grand Prix does make it to the 2016 calendar, there could be 22 races with the addition of Azerbaijan circuit as well.
The 2015 Formula 1 calendar has already been finalised and the Indian Grand Prix cannot be squeezed in, hence, motorsports enthusiasts will have to wait another year to look at and hear the F1 cars scream past them.
The Buddh International Circuit still has a valid 5-year contract which the race promoters are trying to fulfill.
