Ford and Tata could possibly join hands for Ford’s return in the Indian market. Speculation around Ford’s comeback have re ignited as the recently the company started filing design patents of its vehicles in the Indian market. Now, according to a media report, the American brand is likely to partner with Tata for business in the Indian market. Furthermore, reports suggest that the brand could manufacture its products at the Chennai plant.
Reports further suggest that, Ford is likely to bring a new Compact-SUV to the Indian market. This is likely to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Skoda’s upcoming Compact-SUV in the Indian market. Also, sources say that the brand’s major focus is likely to be on Hybrid and Electric vehicles in India. However, the brand has filed patents for the new-generation Endeavour which could come as the new Ford Everest. Also, the brand is likely to introduce the next-generation EcoSport in the Indian market. However, details on this are still scarce.
Ford had earlier partnered with Mahindra to bring a number of SUVs to the Indian market. Under the joint venture, the companies were developing a B-SUV codenamed ‘BX745’, a new Ford Mahindra MPV and the next generation EcoSport codenamed ‘BX744’. The brand was also planning a new C-SUV based on Mahindra’s XUV500. However, due to business conditions caused during the COVID-19 pandemic both companies amicably decided to part ways.
Interestingly, a spied image of a near production SUV circulated the internet just before Ford’s exit. This coincides with the design patents that have been filed recently in the Indian market. This also leads us to believe that the spied model could be the next-generation EcoSport which could be ready to make its debut in the Indian market.
