We’ve been waiting for a long time, and we are not sure if this is a good news or a bad one. The Mustang nameplate has now turned all-electric for the Mach-E. Ford has finally taken the wraps off the Mustang Mach-E all-electric SUV which will make a global debut soon. We had been spotting multiple spyshots and were teased for a long time till now, and this is what the real deal looks like. But more than looks, let’s take a minute to digest the fact that it is an all-electric MUSTANG.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV measures 4712mm in length, 1881mm in width, 1597mm in height and has a kerb weight going up to 2218 kg from 1993 kg for the lowest spec. The all-electric SUV has a boot space capacity of 402L with a 100L waterproof ‘frunk’ (front trunk). One glance and you will notice that there are no door handles on this car, but you get buttons which open and close the doors on this car. There will also be a small keypad on the B-pillar which can be used for locking / unlocking. The Mustang Mach-E SUV does have resemblance to the Mustang muscle car coupe in the silhouette, but it is taller and wider giving itself an SUV appearance.
Ford will have two models for the Mustang Mach-E with power figures ranging between 337 HP and the GT variant pumping out 465 HP which will be launched later. The LED tail lamps of the Mustang Mach-E bear the most striking resemblance to the muscle car version while you have LED headlamps, bold bonnet crease lines, flared wheel arches, body cladding, rear spoiler sharkfin antenna, 18-19″ alloy wheels, panoramic roof, etc. Inside, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a 15.5″ vertically placed touchscreen infotainment mimicking the Tesla cars and it also gets a 10.2″ digital driver instrument cluster. The car will make use of the Sync 4 OS for the infotainment allowing for OTA updates. The Mustang Mach-E will be sold as a 5-seater SUV only.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is based on the new GE2 platform also known as Global Electrified 2 architecture. This is a heavily reworked version of the Ford Focus C2 platform. This all-electric SUV will be launched with a 75 kWh battery producing 258 HP of power and a 99 kWh battery producing 289 HP of power; both of these producing 416 Nm of torque and the driving range rated at 450 km and 595 km respectively as per WLTP cycle. There will also be a twin-motor AWD variant eith a 75 kWh battery pack or a 99 kWh battery pack producing 258 HP of 337 HP respectively and producing a total torque of 582 Nm with a 0-100 kmph sprint time of under 7 seconds and driving range of 419 km of 540 km respectively.
The Mustang Mach-E will rival the Tesla Model Y.
