Ford has revealed the Equator SUV which will initially go on sale in the Chinese market and eventually in other international markets. The Ford Equator SUV is developed in collaboration with its partner Jangling in China and rivals the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and Jeep Grand Commander in the Chinese market.
In terms of size, the 7-seater SUV is similar to the Ford Endeavour which measures 4,903mm in length, 1,869mm in width and 1,837mm in height. The Ford Equator measures 4,905mm in length, 1,930mm in width and 1,755mm in height, and comes with a wheelbase of 2,865mm. The SUV features an imposing radiator grille with a chrome treatment, a wide air dam with a chrome line running across, LED daytime running lights the incorporate the radiator grille and sit flush with the bonnet shutline, bumper-mounted headlamp units, muscular rounded wheel arches, alloy wheels, rock guards below the door, a wraparound taillamp that encompasses the width of the vehicle, trapezoidal tailpipes, silver skid plate and silver roof rails.
On the inside, the Ford Equator features a multilayered dashboard with a dual-tone finish that continues on the seat upholstery. The SUV comes with a 6-/7-seat layout with captain seats in the middle row but what interesting is the dashboard layout. The Equator features a panoramic twin-screen display similar to the Mercedes MBUX system with one half for the driver’s instrumentation and the other for infotainment. The Mahindra XUV500 is also likely to use a similar layout in the next-generation car which is evident from the spy shots. However, the Ford Equator features different air-conditioning controls and vents as well as a rotary shift-by-wire gear selector on the central tunnel.
Powering the Ford Equator is a 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that produces 255 Hp of power and comes with an optional All-Wheel-Drivetrain. The standard model comes with a front-wheel-drive architecture.
