Ford has finally launched the overhyped Freestyle crossover. Yes it comes with plenty of safety features, but it still remains a product based on the Figo which not many people are buying here in India. Prices for the new Freestyle begin from INR 5.09 lakh, ex-showroom.
While most brands have called their hatchback-based butch variants crossovers, Ford is calling the Freestyle India’s first Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV). Let’s leave it at that.
Powering the Ford Freestyle is a 1.2L TiVCT petrol motor producing 96 PS of power and 120 Nm of torque. The diesel motor is a 1.5L unit producing 100 PS of power and 215 Nm of torque. Both engines come matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Ford claims that the new gearbox offers 15% lighter gearshifts and also improves fuel efficiency along with needed 40% lesser gear oil.
With a ground clearance of 190mm backed with 15″ wheels, the Freestyle tries hard to pose as an off-road friendly vehicle. But how many of us are actually going to engage in driving around on roads less known with cars which are not really built for off-roading?
Ford has introduced a lot of safety tech in the new Freestyle. The car comes with Active Rollover Prevention (ARP), Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS with EBD, Hill Launch Assist, and up to 6 airbags on top trims with dual front airbags as standard across all variants. Why does the Freestyle need so many safety features? Watch the video below:
