Fiat planning Jeep SUV for India to rival Fortuner

Fiat is planning to enter the very popular SUV segment in India with the introduction of the Jeep brand. As a part of their Rs. 1,500 – Rs. 2,500 crore investment, the company plans to manufacture a Jeep SUV here in India to rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V etc.

Fiat has set a target for this Jeep SUV to hit the streets in the next two years in the price range of Rs. 20 – 25 lakh.

Reports suggest that development of the company’s first premium SUV has begun under the project codename M6 / 556 and the production of a new C-segment vehicle will also begin by the end of 2016. A new manufacturing line could be setup at their existing Ranjangaon facility after the plans are discussed with their joint venture partner, Tata Motors.

Fiat has also begun work on a modular platform codenamed as 326 which will help build replacements for the Punto and Linea in the near future.

Once the production begins here in India, Fiat will export these models to UK, Australia and other South African markets.
