Stellantis is looking to relaunch the Fiat brand in India. Stellantis is the parent company of Jeep and Citroen amongst others.
During a press interaction, Senior Vice President of Stellantis Billy Hayes said that the company is looking at brining in not just Fiat but also Alfa Romeo. At the same time, this is still under evaluation and Jeep and Citroen will remain the main focus of the carmaker. While there has been no accurate plans yet, the reintroduction of Fiat was a talking point many times according to Hayes.
Fiat was known to sell Punto, Linea, Avventura and Abarth Punto in the Indian market. However, the company focused on Jeep as volumes for Fiat dwindled. This was partly also due to lack of options for Fiat customers to upgrade to. Prior to this, Fiat was known for its Uno, Palio, Senna and Adventure models.
Meanwhile, the company is now looking to establish Citroen as a well-known brand in India. To this end, the carmaker has come up with the C3 Aircross. This will take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder in India.
Meanwhile, the Jeep line-up consists of the Compass and the Meridian SUV.
Stellantis takes the ‘Make in India’ initiative seriously. India is the only country apart from North America to locally produce four Jeep models (Wrangler, Compass, Meridian and Grand Cherokee). And in the case of Citroen, India is the only country apart from France to locally produce the C5 Aircross.
Stellantis is the result of the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA. The new entity has its headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Some of the brands under the company include Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall.
