Zongshen Piaggio in China has launched a small-displacement Café Racer under the Aprilia brand called Pagani 150, based on the FB Mondial Sport Classic 125 ‘Pagani 1948’ and not to be confused with the Italian Supercar and carbon fibre components manufacturer ‘Pagani Automobili S.p.A.’ founded by Argentinian Horacio Pagani, but pays tribute to the Italian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and Formula1 driver, Cirillo ‘Nello’ Pagani.
The Pagani 150 features neo-retro Café Racer styling with rounded headlamps, a rounded aerodynamic nose, bubble windscreen, chopped off fenders, angular side fairings with shark-like gills, modern classic fuel tank with knee recess, a high mounted twin exhaust with chrome heat-shielding covers, a rounded rear seat hump cover, LED tail lights, rear-set footpegs, low positioned handlebars and an angular underbelly.
The Pagani 150 is powered by the Aprilia CR 150 engine a 149.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled, 4-stroke fuel-injected DOHC engine that produces 18 hp of power and 14 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike measures 2040mm in length, 757mm in width, 1152mm in height, 1360mm of the wheelbase, 143mm of ground clearance and 830mm of saddle height.
In mechanical terms, the bike gets 40mm upside-down front forks, twin hydraulic with coil spring rear shock absorbers mounted on the double-sided swingarm, 280mm wave rotor hydraulically operated disc brakes on the front with 4-piston radial callipers and 218mm single wave disc on the rear with a single-piston calliper equipped with a disc brake. The bike also comes with 17-inch spoke rims shod in 100/80 front and 130/70 wide rubber.
The Pagani 150 is priced at CNY 21,800 which roughly converts to INR 2.35 lakhs. Piaggio India may not bring the Pagani 150 in the Indian market anytime soon but the brand has listed the 125cc version of the Tuono on the brand’s official website and could be in the process of evaluating the motorcycle to compete with the KTM 125 Duke and the KTM RC 125 if launched in India.
