Skoda Auto India and Volkswagen India have announced a voluntary recall of select units of their popular models – Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, and Volkswagen Taigun – due to a potential welding defect. The recall affects a total of 52 vehicles, including 38 units of Taigun and Virtus, and 14 units of Kushaq and Slavia.
The recall, officially listed on the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) website on October 20, 2024, pertains to a production process irregularity at the component supplier’s end. According to the listing, the weld seam on the ‘track control arm’ may have been missed during the welding process. This defect could lead to a sudden loss of vehicle control and stability without any prior warning, potentially causing accidents and injuries.
The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 29, 2023, and January 20, 2024. Skoda and Volkswagen have stated that the faulty component will be replaced free of charge, and owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted individually to arrange for the necessary repairs.
Both carmakers have emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of their customers. Skoda and Volkswagen have assured customers that the repair process will be swift and efficient, with minimal inconvenience to the vehicle owners. The companies have also urged customers to check the SIAM website for more information and to contact their nearest authorized service centers for further assistance. The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, along with the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, are part of the companies’ India 2.0 strategy and are known for their safety features.
This recall highlights the importance of stringent quality control measures in the automotive industry and the commitment of manufacturers to address potential issues promptly to ensure the safety of their customers.
