Energica big bikes coming to India?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Premium electric bike maker Energica Motors is planning to debut in India. The Italian bike maker makes electric motorcycles and also has a presence in racing.

Energica has received interest from some of the Indian two-wheeler companies. While the names haven’t been mentioned, they are some of the well-established firms in the Indian market.

The Italian bike maker sells a range of electric motorcycles in Europe. They include a sports tourer, a street bike and a sports bike.
The Energica bikes are highly capable machines that match the performance of petrol-powered middle-weight supersport bikes. The top-end Ego+ bike has a peak power output of 143 BHP and can reach a top speed of a whopping 240kmph! Additionally, the company claims a 400 km range for the bike on a single charge.

The Ego model is priced at US$ 22,565, which is around INR 16,00,000. Furthermore, it is unlikely that these bikes would be manufactured in India as the volume is low. This would mean that the bikes would continue to be expensive.

Another high-performance bike company, Zero Motorcycles, got an investment from Hero MotoCorp. This could turn out to be the next big thing in India. There could develop a market for such bikes in India, but it is still being determined on their timeline.
