Recall Alert! Harley-Davidson Nightster cruiser

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Harley-Davidson has announced a recall for its Nightster range of motorcycles in the USA. According to the American bike maker, units manufactured between 6 December 2021 and 9 September 2022 have been affected. It is estimated that 1,100 bikes will have to be recalled.

Reason for the recall

These 1,100 motorbikes have a faulty handlebars. It was noticed that there is a defective weld that could lead to a separation of the inner and outer sections of the handle bars. The issue came to light when a customer came in with a broken left handlebar. Upon inspection, technicians noticed a weld quality issue and reported to the authorities for a recall. The Milwaukee-based bike maker reported to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 12 days back. The affected piece bears Part No. 55801154.

The owners of the affected motorcycles can call a dedicated hotline for the Nightsters or visit any Harley-Davidson dealership where their handlebars would be replaced free of cost.

Harley Davidson Nightster engine

The Harley Davidson Nightster is powered by a Revolution Max 975T, 975cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine that develops 89 BHP and 95 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and is the chassis’s stress member. The Nightster gets upside-down front forks and dual rear shock absorbers. Braking duties are handled by a single disc brake on both wheels. The Nightster comes with a choice of 3 colour options – Vivid Black, Gunship Gray or Redline Red.

Recall in other markets

As of now, the recall has only been announced in the USA, but the Nightster bikes were also sold in other markets, especially in India. Back in August, Harley-Davidson had launched the bike at an ex-showroom price of INR 14,99,000.

Harley-Davidson in India

Hero MotoCorp is the exclusive distributor for Harley Davidson motorcycles in India. The Harley Davidson Nightster is the next chapter in the brand’s Sportster legacy. It is a big leap forward in design and performance and based on a foundation that the brand laid 65 years ago.

Just two years ago, it looked like there would be no future for the brand in India. After almost 11 years in the country, it looked as if the bike maker was on the verge of packing up its bags. But then, with the merger with Hero MotoCorp, Harley Davidson struck an excellent deal.
