Electric Suzuki Burgman scooter launch delayed in India

Suzuki is planning to launch the new Burgman scooter with a full-electric powertrain. The Japanese brand is currently testing the e-scooter in the Indian market to ensure quality and safety. In the past, images of the test mule of the electric Burgman emerged on the internet from Delhi as well as from Pune. This led us to believe that the e-scooter is in the final evaluation stages and could make its debut soon.

Suzuki Burgman Electric – Launch Delayed

However, new reports suggest that the Suzuki Burgman electric scooter is still a couple of years away from its India launch. Sources report that a recent interaction with the Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd revealed that the development time had been extended owing to the high ambient temperatures of our country. This is not actually surprising as a handful of electric scooters were recently reported of catching fire in India.

Suzuki Burgman Electric – Improved Thermal Management System

Suzuki has been a brand that strives for safety as well as quality. Though the electric Burgman appears production-ready, the brand could be working on the thermal management system. This will help improve the safety of the Burgman electric and make it less prone to overheating, especially in the hot Indian weather.

Suzuki Burgmen Electric – Battery Standardisation

Suzuki could also be delaying the launch to view the government of India’s position on battery standardisation. In the international market, an agreement to standardise swappable batteries has been signed by the four major Japanese manufacturers. This could also be implemented in the Indian market to accelerate electric vehicle sales further. Suzuki could be waiting on the same, further delaying the launch.

Suzuki Burgman Electric – Highlights

Speculation is that the Burgman electric is likely to come with a 5 kW electric motor. The power unit is likely to be powerful enough to propel the scooter to a top speed of around 80 to 90 kmph. The e-scooter is also likely to feature a lithium-ion battery pack that will offer a range of approximately 100 km on a single charge. However, in terms of looks and ergonomics, the EV is likely to be similar to the ICE-powered Burgman.
