Looks like Royal Enfield is on a development spree. According to a media report, the bike maker is working on multiple electric motorbikes. One of them is the electric version of the popular Himalayan.

It is said that the electric adventure motorcycle will be the first from the Royal Enfield stable. The company aims to take a top-down approach for EVs. This means the first bike will be a premium (expensive) bike followed by mass-market models. This will enable them to showcase new technologies as well as create a new brand impression for the customers.

The Himalayan platform could be ideal for the first electric bike. It is an adventure bike, which means that people will use it for touring. Hence it will come with a large battery pack. In an EV, the battery size is proportional to the cost of the vehicle. In fact, batteries alone could cost a significant cost of the product. Hence Himalayan EV could be positioned as a premium offering.

In terms of design, the bike will retain its adventure credentials. The front fascia would be resembling the Himalayan for sure. While the remaining design is still in progress, it does look promising. Unlike current bikes, Royal Enfield could be looking at incorporating the frame as a part of the bike’s body. It will have a large battery pack as well as an external charge indicator. Despite the heavy battery the ground clearance looks decent. Other features are not yet known, but expect a lot of practical and some fancy features to make its way into the final design.

Timeline for the Royal Enfield Himalayan EV

Realistically, the bike could be ready as a concept by 2025-26. Post that, it could take anywhere between two and three years for the bike to be available off the shelves. That said, do expect the bike to be on the expensive side. As it would be the first electric vehicle, subsequent all-electric models could be launched at a faster pace.
