Renault India had a difficult 2022. Their annual sales figures were down by more than 9 per cent to a little over 87k units. 2022 also saw Renault discontinue one of their iconic cars, the Duster SUV. But now with 2023, it seems like Renault India is getting ready to have a great year ahead.
At the 2020 Auto Expo, Renault India showcased the Kwid electric and announced its plans to launch the same within 2 years. It is 2023 now and still, we have not seen the Kwid EV. That is likely because, instead of Kwid EV, Renault is working on the electric version of the Kiger. In the latest scoop, the first spy shots of the Kiger Electric SUV are out.
But with the Kiger electric spy shots now emerging on the internet. It looks like Renault’s first electric car in India will mostly be the Kiger EV. As seen in the spy shots, the Kiger Electric is identical in design to its ICE counterpart. Very nearly, Renault has placed the charging socket under the front logo.
In the interiors, the layout is very similar to the Kiger petrol. Except for the missing gear lever. Instead, Kiger EV gets buttons and a rotating knob for selecting the drive mode. Door panels, steering wheel, and seat fabric all are very similar to what we see in petrol Kiger.
We assume Renault will use the same powertrain that it uses for the Kwid EV in the Chinese market. Thus, Kiger EV could get a 26.8 kWh battery pack which will power the motor to deliver 44 HP and 125 Nm torque. The claimed range is around 300 kms. Noteworthy to mention considering Kiger is a bit bigger in size, it could accommodate a larger battery pack than the Kwid EV. This will help in delivering a higher range of more than 350 km.
Once launched, Renault Kiger EV will take on the likes of the upcoming Tata Punch EV and Citroen eC3. Renault could price the Kiger EV in the Rs 10-15 lakh price bracket.
