EICMA 2024! KTM reveals 390 Adventure R, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 killer

Written by News Team

The 2024 EICMA motorcycle show witnessed the grand unveiling of the KTM 390 Adventure R, a highly anticipated off-road motorcycle designed to take on the rough terrains. The new model is seen as a direct competitor to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, promising to bring a new level of performance and adventure to the market.

Design, Features and Powertrain

The KTM 390 Adventure R is a ground-up redesign, featuring a 399 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produces 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of peak torque. This engine is the same as the one found in the KTM 390 Duke, but it has been optimized for off-road performance. The motorcycle is equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and a quick-shifter, enhancing the riding experience.

One of the standout features of the 390 Adventure R is its adjustable front and rear suspension with a travel of 230 mm, which hints at its strong off-road capabilities. The bike also boasts a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel setup with spoked rims and knobby tires, ideal for tackling challenging terrains.

The design of the 390 Adventure R is inspired by the Dakar Rally, featuring a tall windscreen, vertically stacked headlights, and a robust steel trellis frame. The motorcycle also comes with a full-color 5-inch TFT screen, ride-by-wire, and electronic rider aids such as switchable ABS and traction control. The underbelly exhaust, although unusual for adventure bikes, adds to its rugged appeal.

Competition and Market Position

KTM has positioned the 390 Adventure R as a direct competitor to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, which has been a popular choice among adventure riders. The Himalayan 450, known for its reliability and comfort, will face stiff competition from the new KTM model, which promises enhanced performance and advanced features.

Availability and Pricing

The KTM 390 Adventure R is expected to be launched in India by early 2025, with prices estimated to be around INR 4 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike will be manufactured in India, making it more accessible to local riders.
