EESL to procure 150 Tata Nexon & 100 Hyundai Kona Electric SUVs

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Super Energy Service Company (ESCO) under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, Government of India, has announced that the company will procure 250 electric vehicles from Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India. Both the electric vehicle manufacturers have been chosen through an international competitive bidding process. 

Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor Company won the tender through the bidding process, under which Tata Motors will supply 150 Nexon EV compact e-SUVs and Hyundai Motor India will supply 100 Kona Electric premium e-SUVs for government use. 

EESL will procure Tata Nexon at INR 14.86 lakh each, INR 13,000 cheaper than its ex-showroom price of INR 14.99 lakh whereas, Hyundai Kona, will be procured at INR 21.36 lakh, and 11% lower price and the longer-range car comes with a standard three-year warranty. 

The electric cars will replace the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) that are currently on duty in the Central and State governments. EESL has also received an order for 300 Long Range EVs from The Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), Kerala to be supplied in the initial phase.

This procurement will utilize 5 Million from the recent grant provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). EESL has received financing from ADB towards the cost of scaling up and financing high priority areas like Demand-Side Energy Efficiency Sector Projects.

The Tata Nexon EV is powered by an IP67 standards-compliant Liquid-Cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor coupled to a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion liquid-cooled battery pack that can develop 129 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque matched to a single-speed transmission. The Tata Nexon EV comes with an ARAI tested range of 312 km on a single charge. 

The Hyundai Kona Electric is powered by a 39.2 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack that comes with a 134 Hp / 395 Nm permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with a single-speed reduction gearbox rated to deliver an ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) tested range of 452 km on a single charge.
