Ecom Express, one of India’s end-to-end logistics solutions providers to the e-commerce industry, announced its plans in the EV segment. The logistics company has announced its plans to have 50 per cent of its last-mile fleet transitioned to electric vehicles by 2025. Along similar lines, the company has started deploying E-bikes in Jaipur and Hyderabad. This step resonates perfectly with the EV maker’s effort to reduce its carbon footprint and commit to a safer environment. The use of electric bikes is a great effort to make last-mile delivery greener and cleaner.
As of now, Ecom Express is working on placing the infrastructure for EVs, including the charging facility. The company has already added a fleet of electric 3-wheelers in Delhi NCR. In addition to this, the company has also completed the trial of the use of electric bikes in the last mile delivery. To ensure a wider adoption, Ecom Express is in talks with various players in the EV ecosystem. The logistic company has its presence in all of the 28 states of the country, operating across 27,000+ pin codes. The company also claims that its vast network has the capability to deliver to over 95 per cent of India’s population.
Along with Ecom Express, a host of other logistic companies are also pushing for electric mobility. When compared to their ICE counterpart, EVs offer quite some advantages. First is the operational cost, EVs are much cheaper to run, thus helping to boost the profit. Secondly, maintaining an EV is also both hassle-free and cost-effective. Thirdly, the central government is also now pushing for EVs, and hence there are a lot of subsidies on offer. All these conditions add up to make electric vehicles a much better choice for last-mile delivery. Major e-commerce companies like Flipkart and Amazon have also proposed their interest in pushing for electric mobility for accomplishing last-mile delivery.
