Well, there should be no doubt about this given how common a sight it is on the Indian streets. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that their Dzire compact-sedan has been the #1 selling sedan in India for the last 10 years. This product line started as an extended boot version of the Swift and got badged as the Swift Dzire. Later, it was rebranded as Dzire and the compact-sedan variant pick-up very good momentum in the sales race. Till date, the loyalty that the Dzire sedan commands in the passenger and commercial vehicle segment remains unmatched.
From April 2019 – July 2019, Maruti Suzuki claims that the Dzire has been leading the segment with 61% market share. The brand claims that one new Dzire is sold every 2 minutes here in India. With more than 19 lakh customers over its entire product cycle accounting from the 1st generation of the Dzire, it has surpassed sales of rival cars by a huge margin.
Maruti Suzuki has now revealed that the Dzire sedan has become the first in its segment to come with a BSVI engine. Only the petrol engine is currently BSVI compliant while the 1.3L DDiS diesel engine sourced from Fiat will soon be discontinued, and will not be upgraded to meet the new emission norms.
Powering the Dzire petrol is a 1197cc, 4-cylinder motor producing 61 kW of power @ 6000 RPM and 113 Nm of torque @ 4200 RPM matched to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The diesel engine which will soon be discontinued comes with a 1248cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged block producing 55.2 kW of power @ 4000 RPM and 190 Nm of torque @ 2000 RPM matched to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
In the safety department, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which is sold via the Arena showrooms comes with ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Dual front airbags, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX, front seat belt reminder with pre-tensioner, engine immobilizer and speed alert system as standard.
