Written by Nizam Shaikh

Ducati is planning to launch the new Hypermotard 698 Mono in the Indian market. The brand has officially teased its first road-going single-cylinder motorcycle on its social media channels. However, the brand has not yet revealed the dates when it plans to launch the motorcycle in the Indian market. However, speculation is that the company will launch the motorcycle in the coming weeks.

Engine Specifications

Powering the Ducati Hypermotard 698 is the 659cc Superquadro Mono engine derived from the 1285 cc Superquadro engine of the 1299 Panigale. The engine also features the Ducati desmodromic valve system from the Superquadro, allowing the rev limiter to be set at 10,250 rpm which is higher than any single-cylinder motorcycle of this size. The engine also develops with 77.5 hp at 9750 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm, which is also the highest in the segment. The engine is matched to a 6-speed gearbox. Even though the engine is a high-revving large single, the Hypermotard 698 Mono still comes with benchmark service intervals. The oil change is scheduled for every 15,000 km and the valve clearance check for every 30,000 km.

Performance

The Hypermotard 698 Mono inherits the thermal part of the engine, from the Ducati 1,299 Panigale. This thermal part is the heart of the engine and it is where the power comes from. The common part of the Panigale’s twin-cylinder, and the Mono is the 116mm racing piston featuring a box-in-box design offering both stiffness and strength. Also common is the design of the combustion chamber, and the desmodromic system including the large titanium valves, which is the only system that overcomes the limits imposed by the valve springs and also enables extreme valve lift laws allowing higher revs. The sophisticated system is also used on MotoGP bikes.

Features

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono comes with features such as a 3.8-inch digital instruments cluster, LED lighting, a long beak, twin exhausts and a slim fuel tank. The motorcycle also comes with Marzocchi suspension and Brembo brakes. Ducati also offers electronic intervention systems such as ABS, Traction Control, Wheelie Control, three power modes and four riding modes.
