Ducati leading the electronics innovation game in two-wheelers

Apart from the sports bikes that Ducati makes, the company is also known for its innovations in the two wheeler electronics. Many electronic systems which are now standard on most motorcycles have been developed first by Ducati. Let us take a look at these innovations at Ducati.

Innovations in electronics by Ducati

Back in 2008, the company became the first bike maker to offer Traction Control on a two wheeler. The Ducati 1098R was the first bike to debut with this technology. This allowed the super sport bike to take its performance as well as safety one notch ahead of competitors.

In 2009, Ducati offered LED headlights on the Streetfighter 1100. This again was a first in the world.

The Multristrada was a revolutionary bike in many aspects. But the key highlight was the multiple drive modes offered for the first time on a motorcycle. This 2010 launch was once again a world first by Ducati.

Today, many bikes come with TFT displays. And riders are used to the vast amounts of data available on it. However, did you know that it was once again Ducati that introduced the first TFT display on a motorbike? The 2011 Ducati Diavel was the first to come with the TFT display.

For 2012, the Ducati 1199 Panigale came with all-LED lighting and electronic engine brake management system.

In 2014, Ducati partnered up with Dianese to launch the airbag equipped riding jacket. This jacket was able to communicate with the Multristrada 1200 in regards to the deployment of the airbag. The inflation takes just 20 milliseconds incase of an accident or slide.

The 2018 Ducati Panigale V4 came with a Slide by Brake feature that allows the motorbike to powerslide when braking.

For the year 2020, Ducati became the first bike maker to offer Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection systems on two wheelers. The Multistrada V4 was equipped with radar tech for these safety features.

In the year 2023, the Multistrada V4 Rally was offered with cylinder deactivation technology. Under this, the rear two cylinders switch off to conserve fuel.

Ducati’s continuous upgradation philosophy

Apart from new technologies, the bike maker is also working towards the development of current bikes. This evolution ensures better motorcycles for its owners. For example, earlier-lot Multistrada V4 owners received the Minimum Preload and Easy Lift systems free of charge when it was offered in newer models.
