Difference between Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Vs. Bear 650

Royal Enfield has recently unveiled the Bear 650, a new addition to its 650cc lineup, based on the popular Interceptor 650. While both bikes share many similarities, there are several key differences that set them apart. Here’s a quick specs and feature comparison:

Engine and Performance

  • Interceptor 650: Powered by a 648cc parallel twin engine, it produces 47bhp at 7250rpm and 52Nm of torque at 5250rpm.
  • Bear 650: Features the same engine but with a two-into-one exhaust system, increasing torque to 56.5Nm at 5150rpm while maintaining the same power output.

Design and Styling

  • Interceptor 650: Boasts a classic design with a dual exhaust setup, round LED headlight, and peanut-shaped fuel tank.
  • Bear 650: Sports a more rugged Scrambler like look with a single exhaust pipe, flatter seat, and shorter fenders, giving it a scrambler appearance.

Chassis and Suspension

  • Interceptor 650: Equipped with a high-tensile steel perimeter frame and long-travel suspension with 240mm travel at the front and 220mm at the rear.
  • Bear 650: Features a reinforced chassis for light off-road use and a new suspension setup, enhancing its off-road or scrambling capabilities. 

Dimensions and Weight

  • Interceptor 650: Weighs 210kg and has a ground clearance of 220mm.
  • Bear 650: Slightly lighter at 205kg and offers a higher ground clearance of 225mm.

Features and Technology

  • Interceptor 650: Comes with a digital instrument cluster, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Bear 650: Adds a TFT display, two-into-one exhaust system, and enhanced off-road features.

Price and Availability

  • Interceptor 650: Priced between INR 3.03 lakh and INR 3.31 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Bear 650: Expected to be priced higher due to its additional features and off-road capabilities.

Our Thoughts

The Bear 650 builds on the success of the Interceptor 650 by offering enhanced performance, rugged styling, and improved off-road capabilities. While both bikes cater to different riding styles, they represent Royal Enfield’s 650 cc DNA. Both motorcycles are purpose built however, the Bear seems to be more versatile than the Interceptor.
