After the news broke out regarding the EV Policy 2.0 under development, the government has now spoken to calm the panic among the two-wheeler and autorickshaw owners.
As per the latest online report, the Transport Minister of Delhi, Dr. Pankaj Singh, has spoken to the press stating that the state government will not ban the petrol-powered two-wheeler registration and CNG-powered autos in its EV Policy 2.0 because it is not feasible currently.
As of now, the Delhi government has extended its EV Policy 1.0 for the next three months. Earlier, it was reported that the government has internally decided to no longer register the new petrol two-wheelers from August 15, 2026.
Moreover, the minister also stated that there are more than 100,000 autos and non-electric two-wheelers; hence, ruling them out without a proper EV infrastructure and subsidy structure is not feasible.
So, what now? The online reports hint that the government is considering its EV Policy 2.0 as per the ground reality of the two-wheeler and auto density in the national capital.

Delhiās unprecedented push on people to buy electric vehicles does not seem to be a good idea. The traffic density of the two-wheelers itself contributes to a big chunk of the total traffic in Delhi. Shifting every two-wheeler owner to an EV will drastically limit the EV infrastructure, despite expansion plans.
