Delhi government offers subsidy on e-cycles

The Delhi government announced the inclusion of personal and cargo e-cycles in its EV subsidy policy. Thanks to this, Delhi becomes the first state government to support e-cycles. The Transport and Environment minister of Delhi, Kailash Gahlot, says he wants to make Delhi the centre of EVs. The move will also encourage the purchase of e-cycles and help in enhancing last-mile connectivity.

EV Subsidy policy for e-cycles

Firstly, for personal/passenger e-cycles, the state government offers a subsidy of INR 5,500 for the first 10,000 purchases. Moreover, the first 1,000 buyers get an additional INR 2,000 incentive. The benefits will be available for only one person per e-cycle. To obtain the subsidy benefits, the person has to be a resident of Delhi. Also, the purchase is linked to the Aadhar card of the purchaser.

The government will also offer subsidy benefits for cargo e-cycles. Cargo e-cycles are heavier and more sturdy to handle the extra weight. The first 5,000 units sold will get a subsidy of up to INR 15,000. For last-mile delivery agents, e-cycles will be a better alternative compared to purchasing a petrol-powered expensive two-wheeler. Qualifying personal/passenger e-cycles will have a maximum speed of 25 kmph.
